2016 ended with one of the most widely known cases in the country being closed, right in our own back yard.
This event has answered many questions but also created many many more. This event showed us that is a time for groups to work more closely with each other rather than doing their own thing. I cannot think of a single search that had too many qualified resources, more than enough time to cover all of the areas effectively, maps and cartography on demand, and unmatched communications and coordination.
In 2017 we looked toward the future and created the 2017 SAREX event with the MN CAP, and started a new process to work, train, and share with those individuals and organizations that have less experience and be willing to ask from those that have more, in an environment that provides mutual respect and sharing.
This is the general meeting in which we renew our memberships and cast our votes to for those board member seats that are scheduled to be filled.
We will be discussing the upcoming SAREX 2018 training planned for mid May, the US National Grid system, and other upcoming events and resources.
There will be discussion on changes to the SRRRMN web site along with the details of what members want see and also submit to share from their own group or other sources for our members to learn from or have reference to.
We would strongly encourage groups think about conducting case reviews in the future and bring those ideas with them for discussion. This is also a time to ask others of their experiences or advice on a subject.
Our presentation in the afternoon will be restricted due to the subject.
Presentation Update: This special presentation is for SRRRMN
The current presenter will be Minnesota’s only forensic odontologist, Dr Ann Norrlander.
During the 28 years since her certification, she has assisted
in hundreds of identifications through dental forensics and multiple bite mark cases through dental forensics aiding both attorneys and medical examiners in legal matters that involve the teeth.
She has also worked several mass fatality situations and founded the state
disaster response team.
Dr. Norrlander has recently retired from general practice but continues to
do forensic work, locum tenens and volunteering.
This presentation is not restricted and will include discussion on some very high profile cases here in Minnesota including Katie Poirier and the Wellstone identifications.
Dr Susan Myster is currently not able to present due to her skills being required elsewhere out of state during the same time frame.
The presentation will be on the main floor of the church and will be held in the sanctuary.
We still request that each group try to RSVP with a general idea as to the number of your members that may be attending this presentation.
